People come up to me or hit me on MySpace and ask advice on how to be a director, every once in awhile it feels like they have no idea what it is, they just think it's some kind of glamorous life. People have this perception that you're sitting in a chair calling the shots. As far as directing, it can be a pretty gutter job.

By Any Means Necessary: Make Do With What You Have

Growing up in Albany, my family was very poor and I didn't have a lot of options or opportunities. I didn't have anything to reference for directing other than watching movies and videos and reading books and magazines.

Now it's easy to go on the internet and learn things. You don't necessarily need an expensive camera or expensive schooling. I think a lot of people who can't go to film school can pick up a book. Go online. Use everything around. You can be inspired by anything and everything around you. If you want to put yourself on TV and can't get to MTV, you can go to Public Access. When you start by using things around you, you can get to where you want to be.

With the CRS video, it just came to me because I loved Kanye's mixtape and that song "Us Placers." I used my own money and all the things I used in the video were my props. I used everything that was around me.

Dubbed "Downtown's Sweetheart" for her mesmerizing hold over Manhattan's underground scene, Albany, NY native, Va$htie recently caught the attention of more than a few devoted CRS (Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell) fans with her non-commissioned video for "Us Placers."
