Styleaholic Hair Trends

I honestly feel that black women have the best hair around. From the photos below you can see how much variety we can create with our coifs whether they be natural, relaxed, braided or somewhere in between.

These are some of NYC's most trendy Styleaholics--most of them were captured front row or backstage during NYC Fashion Week.

And I put up a photo of myself--can you guess which one I am?

I've recently taken notice of the strong trend of black, vintage oversized frames from both the 80's and the 70's. As you will see, these frames work on a variety of faces and can really make an outfit "pop"!

Styleaholics, this collection is inspired by the URBAN NOMAD, this sexy and sophiscated leather accessory collection consists of Hobo bags, Hip belts, Earrings, Chokers and Cuffs. Stimulated by the mingling of transatlantic aesthetics, designer Sarah Morgan’s focus is to enhance the modern women’s inner Bond Girl, by making her life’s accessories both stylized and easy. And oh yeaâ€"they are all about using recycled and minimum impact materials. Ahh fashion that saves the earth! Styleaholicsâ€"who can be mad at that? Peep some of the pieces below!

Beauty Beatdown: Model Behaviour

When covering Fashion Week here in NYC, I absolutely love to see the different beauty looks that each designer chooses to compliment their collection. Here are models from Charlotte Ronson, Diane Von Furstenberg, Stephen Burrows and supermodels Chanel Iman and Alek Wek. Let's take a look shall we?
S5004989.JPGAlek Wek here in DVF sports smoky, grey lids, smooth clear cheeks and a nude lip with a hint of peach. I personally think it's a great backdrop to her bold sweater and reddish brown hair.

S5005326.JPGThis Charlotte Ronson model rocks neon, baby pink lipstick (that's a tough one) super, long lusty lashes that are the color of charcoal and chocolate freckles! This reads: playful and flirty.

S5005669.JPGAhh Chanel Iman, sweet in the face, sweeter in person. Here C.I. keeps it simple and fresh with an overall nude face highlighted by bright red lipstick--not gloss--take note of that as you will see a return of lipstick this fall over gloss. I'm also digging the simple swing ponytail and quilted black jacket.

S5005594.JPGThese Stephen Burrows models take us back to the mid-90's with lipstick in shades of burgundy and maroon enhanced by thick eyebrows and barely there eyeshadow and mascara.

Coco Chanel: Remixed for Gen X

Though I'm not big on labels, I absolutely love when someone takes an item and makes it their own by adding a variety of embellishments. I've recently noticed a strong return of Coco Chanel accessories many with a Gex X twist on them. Take note of the deep purple spray paint and graffiti play on the logo, which simantaneously funks up and originates this classic Chanel bag; the dope two-toned ankle boot with the oversized cuff and the Chanel cell phone which Kanye West recently did a blog post about.

Once again here is proof of the strong continuation of the retro 80’s look. These two Styleaholics show us how to rock geometric, bold clip-on earrings with both a permed style as well as natural curls.

Hairstory: Kat's Japanese Animation Layers

I caught up with Kat during Fashion Week backstage at one of the many shows I covered. Whew! (I'm still trying to recover.) LOL

Kat calls her color "Sunshine Red," the brightest she's ever been; and though her stylist says it's bad for her hair she still uses Pantene. The multi-layered style that fabulously frames her face was inspired by Japanese animation. Peep the video to hear her Hairstory.

Erykah Badu's Functional Art Style

Last night, I caught up with Erykah Badu at her private listening party for her upcoming albums--yes albums--she will be dropping a trilogy album starting in Feb, but I digress. When queried about the "mainstream" move of her upcoming Tom Ford fragrance campaign, she explained how she and Tom both wanted to use fragrance, fame and fashion to break down color barriers. Peep the clip below to tune in and to learn why she considers her personal style "functional art."

Styleaholic Trend Alert: Funky Fur Style

Despite quite a bit of movement within the fashion industry on a huge bevy of green issues, fur is hotter and more in style than ever before. Here these Styleaholics really made their furs their own with bold, hip-hop or neo-soul infused accessories.

Styleaholics, I always say that the fall/winter seasons bring out the best in hat fashion. Here I noticed several different types of Styleaholics rocking a black mini top hat. Note that both Styleaholics featured here wear the hat slightly cocked back and a bit smaller than the usual size of a top hat.

Wassup 1224 Style! Every Tuesday I will be bringing you: "Beauty Beatdown," where I will review a variety of products and trends in the world of beauty and if you are a true beauty addict of course you want to know what's going to be hot this Fall!

I absolutely adore metallics!

This trend has been going strong for several seasons and shows know sign of slowing up.

Menswear Runway Review: Sean John Fall '08

I've quite a few mixed feelings on the Sean John collection and the show itself. Off the bat, the looks down the runway-honestly are NOT going to be worn by any straight man. To confirm this I asked several dudes in the audience including a "Wall Street" type, a model and a regular dude from around the way--who all said--"nope."

The cropped tummy jackets, sparkly scarves and all over red suit seemed more suited for his womenswear collection. On the other hand I loved the music which Diddy himself curated--lyrics included homage to the beauty of being black--and his use of ALL BLACK models in the show was a breath of fresh air. If you are up on your fashion game you will know that the lack of color on the runway is a SUPER HUGE issue right now.

Peep some of the looks below.

Wassup 1224 Style!
Every Monday I will be bringing you style coverage for men---think of it as "Manly Mondays." Coverage will include interview with menswear designers, menswear trendspotting and the latest looks in menswear.

I've recently noticed the return of the Bowtie, rocked by the Gen X crowd. These dudes added their own swagger by highlighting this classic accessory with a sequined hat, oversized frames, a chocolate blazer and layered leather jackets. Also take note of the funky twist on the bowties themselves: sequined glitter, satin blood red and pinstripe.

Men are you digging this trend?

Hey 1224! On a daily basis I will be bringing you a trend straight from the streets of NYC. These photos and stylish folks have been shot at some of NYC's FLYEST events, parties and hoods by yours truly!

I’ve recently noticed the return of animal prints against both bold and bright colors; prints have included leopard, snakeskin, and python. What seems to be different this go around is the variety of apparel and accessories that have animal prints mixed into the design. Featured here is a great Jordan menswear bag, take note of the black n’ white leopard insert on the edge. A pair of powder blue Nike kicks featuring a black n’ blue snakeskin print in the majority of the sneaker. A leopard cardigan in the unusual color mix of maroon and black and finally these funky neon green python spandex pantsâ€"and they are belted!
Enjoy!
